Leadership Tips & Training Creative Leadership Tips
Saturday February 1st, 2003
I have recently received some very creative leadership tips from First Place leaders. I thought they were great ideas and just had to share them with you!
Nancy,
Just wanted to let you know that my First Place group is "Walking to Texas!"
We're not really walking to Texas but in a way we are.
My group has mapped out a route from Portland, Oregon to Houston, Texas and for every mile we walk when we exercise we will mark the mileage on our map. We also will count any activity that will raise a member's heart rate, 15 minutes of aerobic activity will equal one mile.
We are very excited! As we travel on the map I will email you and let you know what towns we will pass through. It would be fun to contact a First Place group in that town and let them know that in spirit we just passed through!

Carole and First Place in Houston,
It was such a pleasure hearing from you today. Your e-mail asked where I am from. I live in a small town in Missouri called Troy. We are about 45 minutes north of St. Louis and I attend the Silex Assembly of God Church in Silex, Missouri (another small town).
I would like to tell you all of a way we are trying to work together as a team to lose weight and put God first in our lives. We have divided ourselves into two teams. The first team consists of all ladies and they named their team "The Determinators," because they are determined to lose the weight and win. Now, the other is mixed with men and women and we named ourselves "The Renovators," because we are currently under construction with God.
The key to this is, “we get points as a team for doing our Bible study, exercising, drinking water, etc., but what makes this whole thing interesting is that you have to encourage the people on the opposite team to get the points for encouragement. At the end of this session, the losing team will provide the winning team the victory dinner of their choice. Since we have been doing this, everyone is working hard on doing better than their best. Well, I need to go, and again it was a great pleasure hearing from all of you.
Good luck and God Bless.
