Leadership Tips & Training Leader FAQs
Saturday March 1st, 2003
This month, we will address some frequently asked leader questions:
What is the Health First Magazine (Magalog) and how do I subscribe to it?
Health First is a quarterly publication that contains articles about nutrition, leadership, exercise, recipes, and more! It also contains a First Place catalogue of all our materials. It is a great publicity tool, to share with others about what First Place is, and a motivator for those participating in or leading First Place.
Where can I purchase plastic food models? How can they be used in a First Place class?
Nasco is a company who produces and sells these teaching tools. They also have a model that represents a pound of fat. This is a very popular visual for leaders to use when discussing what it means to lose a pound of fat. The food models represent appropriate portions of various foods and will help members visualize such things as 3 ounces of meat or 1/3 cup rice. You may visit their website at www.enasco.com and view their catalogue of teaching tools or call 1.800.558.9595.
How do I find other First Place groups in my area?
To find First Place groups in your area enter your zip code in the group directory search. You can find groups that are within 10, 25, or 50 miles or your location. For this to be effective, leaders must register their groups. This can be easily done by following the steps.
ATTENTION ALL LEADERS PAST AND PRESENT: If you haven’t registered your group, then I strongly urge you to register now! ALSO – PLEASE update information and delete old information. This is helpful to people trying to find a group that is active. Please remember your password as you are the only one who can change your information using your personal password.
